How to Prepare Your Swimming Pool for winter

Once fall ends, you know that it is time to start to close your pool down as winter starts. The first thing you need to check is the pH level of your swimming pool water. If the pH level is not about 7. 5, just add some dry acid to reach the level. Next, you need to check the chlorine level. You can use a winterizing product to protect your swimming pool from algae growing during this winter period. So, what do you do doing the winter months? Everyday, you should run your pump for about 6 hours to make sure that algae do not grow in there. Make sure you check for any types of leaks. You can switch your skimmer valve off and allow the water to drain to about 6 inches below the skimmer’s bottom and thus, you get the desired amount of pool water. As for your summer cover, you can give it a excellent wash with water and a pressure washer if possible. After you have cleaned and washed your summer cover, you can store it in your garage and take out your winter cover. While putting the winter cover on the pool, you must ensure that you have enough tension on the cover to prevent anything from getting under it. You still need to do routine check on the cover every few days to ensure that the cover is still tight. Always remember that pool covers are meant only to protect your pool and water. So, please do not let you a pet or any person on the cover. It may result in pool accidents. Thus, you have to remind your family and friends that your pool is closed for winter and not to go near it. This is for their safety. Next, you have to make sure your swimming pool equipment is well taken care of for the winter. Water from your pump, heater and your filter should be allowed to drain out. You must remember to drain the water before the winter starts or else the water can freeze inside the equipment during the winter period. It will cost you a lot of money to fix the hurt. After all these, you have gotten your pool protected for the winter. Do remember to conduct regular checks on your pool to ensure everything is fine. As long as you have followed the proper procedure of preparing your pool for winter, your swimming pool will be well-protected and be ready to open when summer comes.
