Washing Machine Will Not Fill With Cold Water?

I got a used Whirlpool washer, not sure of the model number, and it only seems to work with Hot water. I have already checked the following:
– Cold water valve has pressure to it (sprayed myself in the face and made a mess, so I am sure)
– Hose does not have any kinks or clogs in it
– Screen on inside of the washer is not clogged and has been cleaned just in case.
Can anyone advise as to what to try next? I didn’t spend a lot on this washer, so I am hesitant to call a professional repairman. It would probably be more than I paid for the set. . .
Thank you!

After you have followed the advice above & done the test. And does turn out to be the mixing valve or solinoid, same thing kinda. And you are right a service call would prob be expensive. Service call and the over priced repair part. So if you want a cheap fix( if it is the valve) .
Just go to the hardware store and buy metal not plastic ” y” valve or a Y hose connector, the folks at hardware store can help you.. The type you use for a garden hose to split one hose or outlet into two. Then hook the hot and cold water to Y , then connect the single output of the Y to the washers hot water input. The when you want a hot wash just turn on the hot water, and for a cold ,just turn on the cold water. All you will be doing is controling the water manually. for warm ,turn them both on.
If water seeps out of the disconnected cold water hose from the washer, just plug it off.
Or attempt to replace the part yourself. But sometimes when we just guess, we replace a part and it still does not work because it was something else. Like the electronics that control the valve ,etc.
Just a suggestion for a cheap fix. or take the unit back to the seller and get your $ back.. Or you might get lucky on the first try by replacing the valve.
You could also try tapping sharply on the valve body with a metal object. Sometimes this get a stuck valve to go

Okay try this test, hook up the hot water hose to the cold water side of the washer and the cold water hose to the hot water side of the washer. Then place the selector to cold/cold setting and see if any water comes out, if not then you have a terrible mixing valve, if it does then try hot/hot, if water comes out on this setting too then you may have your hoses reversed. The device that your hooking the hoses up to is called the mixing valve, or inlet valve. Write the model number down to buy a new one, they should be under $50.00

The fill valve is probably terrible. These are not hard to change. You can remove the cover and see the thing. Most appliance repair supply shops can get the valve for you.Unplug the washer before servicing. Please take time to select a best answer when you get it fixed Thanks.YES THE MIXING VALVE AND FILL VALVE ARE THE SAME. It could be the hot cold selecter control but 99 percent of the time it is the valve itself.Either way you can fix yourself much cheeper. A service call would be 50.00 or more plus the part.DO NOT Know THE THUMB DOWN. I work in apartment maintinence.Have serviced many washers with this problem. The asker said she sprayed herself with COLD water. This tells me the supply hose is right and the screen is open. That leaves the valve or the control. In my experience 99 % of the time the valve is terrible.I am simply trying to save Kate money.
